Like most Rotary clubs across the New Zealand and Pacific region (Rotary Oceania), Lautoka Rotary has remained consistently very active in supporting those suffering from the restrictions, health and economic effects of the Covid-19. The latest project of the Lautoka Rotary members is to construct a greenhouse and a washhouse for the Lautoka Lelana Primary School.

Melissa Natawake is the club’s youth ambassador and said the members especially wanted to grow sustainable projects that supported the grassroot communities struggling at this time.  The club also supplied vegetable, herb, fruit and flower plants to get the greenhouse started.

Alongside this support they were able to supply food hampers through the school canteen to assist students who had not been able to attend school due to the financial constraints of the pandemic.  In a collaborative effort, the funds for the food hampers were provided by Otahuhu Rotary, Auckland.

Other recent projects of the club have been the start of a long-term initiative providing reusable sanitary packs for the communities with which they work and a food hamper relief project to outlying villages of the Western Division of Fiji.
